Mobile World Congress next week!

Mobile World Congress 2013 is being held in Spain. And the big names in mobile phones and computers will show new stuff. Expect to see things that were not in Las Vegas last month. Watch for Microsoft. They may have a new announcement.

“Nokia is holding a press conference early on Monday morning, and we can’t wait to see what it’s got in store. The Finns have mostly managed to keep things under wraps, but there are a few exciting rumours whizzing around: MWC may be where we meet the Lumia Windows Phone with a full-on, 41 megapixel PureView sensor like the Symbian-ridden 808 cameraphone.”

What to Expect Next Week.

Also, Samsung might not be showing off the Galaxy S4 in Barcelona, but the company is believed to be working on an eight-inch rival to the Apple iPad mini.

Does Windows 8 really make Smartphones into computers?

Good question. Some say yes.  I think the answer is No. Yest it is getting there.

Here are some quotes from an article by Simson Garfinkel on February 20, 2013

“…It makes technical sense for Microsoft to maintain a single, core operating system with a consistent set of application programming interfaces (APIs). In fact, it makes so much sense that Apple and Linux moved to a single kernel years ago. What’s different about Windows 8 is that it gives users a similar graphical user interface (GUI) on every platform…”

“…many critics have decried Windows 8 as another Microsoft misstep, I think they’re wrong. After using the new operating system in all its incarnations on a phone, on Microsoft’s Surface tablet, and on several desktops, I’ve come to regard it as truly transformative. Windows 8 will well serve the needs of those nontechnical users who just want to access their online social networks, watch Netflix, and go shopping…”

Oracle Releases February Java Security Update Ahead of Schedule Dealing with 50 Flaws

The company got some bad PR from the government. They said the current version of the software has bad security problems.

Something this happened last year also.
