Will You Quit and Walk Away? Are you ready?

Here are some tips that might help. Or just make you think more.

There are certain sure signs that quitting is better for you in the long run. While many of these are common sense tips, it’s often hard to look at the situation objectively. Change can be frightening, there are always some positives to hold you back, and quitting often feels like failure—especially if you’ve invested a lot of effort or time into an endeavor

Source for above: When it is time to quit.

That above reference talks about how people hate to give on on a project that has already costs much in time and resources. Yet somethings the best thug is to just walk away from something that got off to a bad start.

If it is you job, her  are some thoughts:

You dread going to work. Do you go to sleep every night dreading the next day of work? While it’s normal to have qualms about the work day, if you truly, deeply dread those eight hours at the office, it is time to put in your two weeks notice.

You’re overqualified. There are times when we have to take subpar jobs just to get by, but if you’re in a job that you are overqualified for, don’t feel stuck.

There’s no room for advancement. Don’t waste time in a position that doesn’t offer opportunities for growth. Committing your time and energy to a company that won’t support the progress of your career, or grow with you, will end up hindering the development of your career in the long run.

The work environment is negative.  If your co-workers are constantly complaining, and your boss is persistently unhappy, the probability of your own contentment is extremely low. Moreover, a pessimistic atmosphere can even kill the passion you have for your career choice. If you find yourself in one, it’s time to get out.

So, what happened to Help9pm

Yes, it has been a while since I made the post here.

Let me explain what happened.

The service I was using somehow changed ownership and both of the sites I had are lost.   Rather than file some kind of a complaint against the new owner, I did the best I could to try to work with him and get my sites up and running. Unfortunately, neither he was too busy to pay attention to my request or he didn’t understand what happened.
Apparently, when he took over the server he somehow thought that I owed him money. That was not true, I was already paid up and my subscription was not yet t due.
So, to make a long story short, I ended up buying a new service from another company. My feeling was that if he didn’t understand what I needed and he abruptly cut me off without sufficient warning, I would have better off getting service from somebody else.
Would you like to hear more about my experiences trying to get good web host service at a low cost?
I think I’m going to try to sell web hosting myself. By paying more money to a better firm they will let me resell some part of the webspace to other people. I think this is a good idea.
If you might be interested, you can contact me with the following e-mail address :

My intent is to offer basic see panel web hosting for about $.80 a month or maybe $9 for a full year.

I will have more information later on.

Avoid Microsoft Surface Pro Now.

Until they fix the battery battery trouble,  a new Surface Pro  may be a real headache.

The problem is not new at all. But they can not fix it. Users keep reporting thebateriesoverheat and do not hold the advertised 6 hours change. So far, Microsoft, the maker, has not fould a believable excuse.

There are a number of web sites that give the new table tablet  computer  less that perfect scores. It is all about the battery life. Unless you don’t mind sjhor battery life, you should look elsewhere for a new table tablet computer.

( It is a ‘table tablet’ because it allows a keyboard to be attached and stand up on a table top.)

Here is a link that criticizes the Surface Pro.

This Reddit makes me think I should avoid surface devices from Surface

How to Make a Hotspot for Internet on Vacation

You already know that your tablet or laptop computer can get into the Internet if you are near a Wi-Fi hotspot. For example the local public library, a local coffee shop or even McDonald’s offer free Wi-Fi to their customers.

But what about if you’re on vacation far away from the city and you would like to surf the Internet? Well, you likely have a smart phone that has Internet access but you find the screen of your smart phone is rather small for doing much web surfing.

Did you know there is a way to tether your smart phone to your tablet or laptop? Sometimes this is called tethering and other times it is called hotspot. With a USB cable you can connect the phone to your tablet and turn on the tethering option. But you can also use the Wi-Fi. Turn Wi-Fi on in your tablet. Then make sure Wi-Fi is off on your smart phone and get into the Internet using your data service. Been looking around inside the android menus you should find a place where it says you can turn on a hotspot. When you find it, you have the option of putting in a password to prevent other people from using it. But if you’re in a remote area, that would hardly be needed.

The advantage  is that your tablet provides a much nicer screen for movies. And here’s the surprise. Some mobile carriers will not charge you data usage if you use it only for watching movies on certain services. For example, Netflix has an agreement with many of the will cell phone carriers to let people watch as much as they want without going over there data connection limit. Ask your local cell phone service provider. I have used it and found it to be a real neat way to watch movies or TV shows and not get charged for over use of my data plan. In fact, I got one of those free phones for people with limited income. And yes, I am unlimited income. True, I have this website, but I’m not rich.

The cell phone carrier I received was a company called TAG. The service they offer is through T-Mobile and streaming Netflix through my phone does not incur extra data charges. So I thought that was a very neat trick. A free phone and all the Netflix I want. Of course, I still have to pay for my Netflix. No I don’t. My daughter let’s me use her Netflix account. Netflix lets you use up to four different devices for one Netflix account.

So yes, I watch Netflix for free on my phone phone. And if I want a bigger screen I can tether or hotspot my phone so that my tablet will pick it up on Wi-Fi or USB. Check with your local service provider to see what their policy is about watching movies and about using a hotspot. Some providers will charge you extra for adding a hotspot to your smart phone. So you need to check first.

This is not about which cloud services the best. But this is about how you find the one that best suits you. In fact, I suggested to try more than just one service. Many of these services are free and give you the opportunity to try out different features without committing yourself to a contract.

I recommend that you read the following article from another site. It goes into much greater detail about what you can expect from the popular cloud services. I believe the article is there and very comprehensive and has some good ideas about what you can accomplish with a cloud service. I recommend you try a free service first. Windows 10 or Windows 7 – Which?

As you know, current users of Windows 7 and 7 acan upgrade free to Windows 10. If you change you mind, you can go back.

Yes, it is true. You can revert to the prior versions of Windows and not lose your data. Microsoft has made it easy for those of us who are reluctant to move ahead. Built0into the new Windows 10 are tools to let you go back. So what is the catch?   Nothing.

You should not destroy the extra files Windows makes to save you old settings and system. These are needed if and when you  want to roll back the system. And do not use  the disk clean up or any other tools the sweep out extra  files.

Even so, it is always a goo idea to have a reliable backup plan in place. Just in case. If need be, you can install Windows 7 again and get r data back fro the backup. Hopefully that should not be needed.

Still in doubt? Here is a tip. Get another Hard Drive and try Windows 10 on the spare hard drive and see how it works before you commit yourself.

How You Can Get Gigabit Internet.

Gigabit Internet in Cincinnati.

This is not a joke. Many residents of Cincinnati will soon have gigabit Internet. Conventional wisdom says that is impossible, only a fiber backbone would carry gigabit Internet. Nevertheless, some sources say that companies like Comcast and cities like Cincinnati are planning on providing gigabit service to home users. It sounds absurd, but the technology already exists.

How to save a webpage for the visually handicapped person.

Perhaps you have come across an interesting webpage and you would like it to be available for a person with visual difficulties. Your browser already has provisions to a large the font size of the page. However, that may not be enough to make the material easy to read for a visually impaired person.
A practical alternative is to print the page as a PDF file. Why? Because once the file is in PDF format, it becomes easier to edit and rearrange so that the person with limited vision can easily read the text. And the PDF viewer has additional features for enlarging the view area, and allowing the page to be scrolled not just up and down, but also left or right. A browser that’s used for a webpage does not always allow for that kind of manipulation. But once you have the file in the PDF format, you have much more control over how it appears on the computer monitor.
As for myself, I am visually impaired and that is one of the tricks I use when I come upon something quite interesting that I would like to save and be able to read it leisurely when I have more time.
If you know someone with vision problems, you may want to share this idea with him. Just install a PDF viewer that includes the option of printing to a PDF file. Then, whenever an interesting webpages found it can be printed to a PDF file that later can be manipulated and edited for easy viewing.
